Malaysia Durian Export Season 2025: What Buyers Need to Know
Malaysia's Musang King and D24 durian harvest is projected to peak in June–August 2025. Here is what importers across the Middle East and East Asia should prepare for.
Malaysia's durian season runs from June through August across most of Peninsular Malaysia, with Pahang and Johor producing the bulk of the nation's export-grade fruit. The 2025 season is shaping up to be one of the strongest in recent memory, driven by favourable rainfall patterns in the first quarter and a surge in pre-orders from buyers in China, Hong Kong, and the UAE.
The Musang King variety continues to command the highest premiums in international markets, with FOB prices from Kuala Lumpur averaging between USD 12 and USD 18 per kilogram for freeze-dried pulp. Black Thorn and D24 are gaining traction among buyers seeking more accessible price points without sacrificing the characteristic creamy texture that defines Malaysian durian.
China remains the dominant destination, absorbing roughly 70 percent of Malaysia's fresh and frozen durian exports. However, the Middle East is emerging as a significant growth corridor. Dubai's cold-chain infrastructure has matured considerably, and Gulf buyers are increasingly comfortable committing to full container loads of frozen pulp for retail distribution across the GCC.
For importers looking to secure allocation ahead of peak season, the window for forward contracts typically opens in April. Nagara Global Trading works directly with certified orchards in Pahang and Johor to ensure traceability from tree to container, with phytosanitary documentation and cold-chain integrity maintained throughout the export process.
Buyers interested in the 2025 season should note that MARDI-certified Musang King commands a significant premium over uncertified fruit, and that demand is expected to outpace supply in the premium segment. Early engagement with your trading partner is strongly advised.
